Summary of Initiatives – Tourism
- Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, 84.96 Crores was sanctioned for the infrastructure development of circuits in Garo Hills, Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills.
- Infrastructure was inaugurated at Lake View and Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam under Swadesh Darshan Development Scheme for development of circuits in East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi Districts.
- Assistance for creation of tourism infrastructure in the form of homestays and resorts was provided by the State Government in the form of the “Meghalaya Tourism Development and Investment Promotion Scheme 2012”
- Incentives & Concessions to local entrepreneurs through The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Under this Policy, incentives for Service Sector have been covered for Hotels (not below 2-Star Category) Adventure and Leisure Sports including Ropeways, Vocational Training Institutes such as Institutes for Hotel Management, Catering and Food Crafts.
- Assistance for purchase of multi utility vehicles to approved resort owners/hotel owners/tour operators for purchase of vehicles for tourism purposes.
- Development of rural tourism in Meghalaya through the creation of infrastructure and amenities such as lodges and eateries for tourists in 500 villages
- Incentives to house owners who are willing to provide Hospitality in the form of Bed ‘n’ Breakfast in all the prominent tourist destinations.
- Training Capacity Building and Skill Development through training partners such as IL&FS Education, B-ABLE, Avenues, ETPL India, and IHM & FCI etc. Training have been conducted in the areas of grooming and building of life skills in hospitality and service, front office work including communication skills, housekeeping, food and beverage service, food and beverage production, outdoor and adventure activities and skill development of masons and electricians.
