Summary of Initiatives – Animal Husbandry & Veterinary
- Launch of the Piggery Mission on 10th September 2020: Meghalaya government launched the biggest piggery project in India for Meghalaya in presence of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhury and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong at National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Headquarters in New Delhi. The Meghalaya State Piggery Mission, supported by the NCDC, will enable the State to achieve self-sufficiency in pork production, reduce the out-of-state import burden by nearly Rs. 150 Crores annually and improve the incomes of over 25,000 households, totaling to an annual increment of Rs. 70 Crores across the state.
- Launch of the Meghalaya Milk Mission: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh launched a Rs 215-crore project through the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for Meghalaya Milk Mission on July 2018 for various training under dairy farm, chilling centre and purchase of cattle. The mission would facilitate in achieving the Centre’s goal of doubling farmer’s income by 2022 through promotion of milk business in the state.
