Summary of Initiatives – Education
- Launch of the Digital Content Portal: On the 27th April 2020, the Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, announced the pilot launch of the e-scholar portal https://niceinfotech.co.in. Through this platform digital content developed for secondary level under Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya Project has been given to all secondary and higher secondary schools to aid in their studies during the pandemic.
- Set-Up of Task Force for Implementation of National Education Policy: A task force has been constituted to implement the new National Education Policy released by the Central Government on August 2020. Meghalaya would be the first state in the country to implement NEP 2020 this way.
- First State Education Policy Approved: The State Education Policy was approved on September 2018, the first education policy since the inception of the state in 1972.
- Launch of “Restart Meghalaya Mission’ on 15th August 2020: Under the “Restart Meghalaya Mission”, the following initiatives in Education Sector have been
- Construction of 13 Ekalvya Model Residential Schools initiated and another 25 Schools have been sanctioned for construction
- Construction of 4 Polytechnic at Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and East garo Hills will be completed
- 12 Crore sanctioned for the Upgradation of Degree Colleges at Baghmara, Sohra and Williamnagar
- Construction of Model Degree Colleges: The construction of two new Model Degree Colleges has started at Patharkhmah and Rongjeng.
- ICT Enabled teaching equipment have been installed in 36 Schools
- Infrastructure of 117 Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools is being upgraded under the supporting Human Capital Development Project with 70 Schools already constructed.
